More than 60 Companies to Face the Court for Violating Single Use Plastic-Ban

Environment Minister, Daryl Vaz, says over sixty companies in Jamaica have so far found themselves in trouble with the law for breaching the country’s plastic ban.

Minister Vaz says despite the breaches he’s heartened by general support for the ban.

He says the Government has been reasonable as it moves to ensure that the ban reaps more success.

The Environment Minister is commending Government Senator Matthew Samuda for moving a private members motion a few years ago which triggered the plastic and styro-foam ban.

Daryl Vaz, Minister without portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister with responsibility for the Environment.

Minister Vaz says the plastic bottle recycling and deposit refund scheme is going well.

Minister Vaz says there’s more work left to be done in relation to the bid to rid the environment of plastic bottles.
