Gov’t Says Residents Near JISCO Alpart Plant To Be Compensated Over Dust Nuisance

Minister without portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation, Daryl Vaz, says compensation will be provided to residents living near the JISCO Alpart Bauxite Plant recently affected by dust nuisance.

Minister Vaz, says he expects this to happen as soon as tomorrow.

Residents in surrounding communities on Monday broke down the gates of the plant located in Nain St. Elizabeth.

They were venting their dissatisfaction with the dust nuisance and demanding compensation for their suffering.

Minister Vaz says he’s spoken to both residents and the management of JISCO regarding the issue.

He describes the discussions as positive.
