The pomegranate, or punica granatum, is a shrub that produces a red fruit. It is among the healthiest fruits on Earth and is very good for a range of ailments.

Cultivated in the Middle East for centuries and now a fruit grown in most tropical countries, pomegranates are filled with important nutrients.

Pomegranate has impressive anti-inflammatory effects to treat chronic inflammation, one of the leading drivers of many serious diseases – including heart disease, cancer, type 2 diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease and even obesity.

Laboratory studies suggest that pomegranate extract may slow cancer cell reproduction and even induce apoptosis, or cell death, in cancer cells. Preliminary evidence indicates that pomegranate juice can be useful in men with prostate cancer, potentially inhibiting cancer growth and lowering the risk of death.

Regular intake of pomegranate juice has been shown to lower blood pressure levels in as little as two weeks. It is also known in some cultures as a prevention for the dreaded erectile dysfunction in males, and to increase memory in older adults.
