The female Anchovy Primary School teacher who lost control of a motorcar she was driving, and mowed down seven-year-old Easton Stapleton Jnr on the school compound, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

The accused, Kerry-Ann Cunningham, 32-years-old of Mt Carey, St James, is to appear in the St James Parish Court on Tuesday, July 10. She was reportedly charged on June 26.

Reports are that about 3:50 pm on Tuesday, June 12, after classes were dismissed, Cunningham was driving on the school compound when the student was accidentally mowed down.

The child reportedly died on the spot and the distraught teacher abandoned the car and ran to the staff room where she was assisted by her colleagues.

The following day, several state agencies and teachers from the neighbouring Anchovy High School offered counselling to the entire school population which had been plunged into mourning.

Classes had to be suspended for the day.

Cunningham was subsequently charged by the Anchovy police.
